Introduction

In 2011, Dr Nguyen earned his bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from Portland State University in Oregon, graduating with a GPA of 3.97 out of 4.0. From 2011 to early 2013, Dr Nguyen worked as a product yield engineer at Intel, where he was awarded the Intel Global Test Manufacturing Group (TMG) Excellence award in the fourth quarter of 2012. Dr Nguyen completed his PhD in solar photovoltaics at the Australian National University (ANU) in December 2016 under the guidance of Professor Daniel Macdonald. He subsequently worked as a visiting scientist at the United States' National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) in 2017. Currently, Dr Nguyen holds the position of Senior Research Fellow and Senior Lecturer at the ANU, as well as serving as Editor of the IEEE Transactions on Electron Devices. Dr Nguyen has received several awards for his teaching and supervision, including the ANU's Dean Award for Excellence in Supervision in December 2018 and ANU-wide recognition as Supervisor of the Month in February 2020. He was also awarded the CECS Dean's Award for Remote Teaching in August 2020 in both individual and course categories. In 2021, Dr Nguyen was awarded the Vietnam Golden Globe Awards in Science and Technology for Young Scientists and was selected as one of the Ten Outstanding Young Faces of Vietnam. Dr Nguyen's research focuses on advancing solar energy technologies through scientific discoveries and technological inventions. His research covers the entire spectrum from fundamental to applied research. His team investigates the fundamental properties of light-matter interactions in solar energy materials and devices, aiming to uncover the relationship between absorbed/emitted light and important material/device properties such as optical, electrical, chemical, and structural properties. The team utilises these findings to develop novel device concepts, advanced characterisation techniques, and defect engineering methods with applications to renewable energy and material science. Dr Nguyen's research has been featured by numerous media channels worldwide, and he has published 88 peer-reviewed journal articles in various reputable journals (as of May 2023).
